SCALA FORUM INFORMATION

The SCALA Forum welcomes new members to help on joint issues such as best value, quality of design and other aspects of the Rethinking Construction agenda. These, together with AMP's and portfolio management, are the current priority areas. The Forum incorporates the work previously carried out by the Design and Practice fora and is responsible for organising the annual Study Day:

Practice issues

This includes reporting and advising upon the constantly changing professional scene in the public sector with a particular remit to scrutinise and respond to the continuous flow of consultation and guidance documents emerging from government departments. This includes:

Asset management plans and best practice, forms of contract, professional indemnity insurance, EU matters, procurement, benchmarking, commissioing, equal opportunities, IIP, QA, Egan initiatives, partnerships, investment strategies, business planning, SLA's, trading accounts, performance criteria, CDM, ICT, legislation and other consultation/guidance documentation plus similar issues of concern to members.

Design issues

Promoting design excellence in public sector buildings and encouraging debate on design issues of interest to members including:

Sustainability, inclusion, flexibility in design and use, new construction techniques, value management and engineering, regeneration, life cycle costing and the Maintenance Survey, which is the definitive publication for maintenance data on most local authority buildings.

For further information on the SCALA Forum please contact the Chairman, Kevin Kendall (T: 0115 977 3198)
