The SCALA Support Network

SCALA responds to its members needs as well as initiating debate and influencing opinion in a variety of ways:

  • A national event each Autumn on a key current issue
  • A national Study Day each Spring with workshops on a topical technical issue
  • SCALA Forum providing information on a wide range of topics
  • 5 newsletters a year covering legislative, contractual, design, environmental and management issues affecting construction and

  • Publications on a wide range of issues of interest to members
  • Working with a wide range of local and central government organisations and institutions in its support of local government construction and property services. In particular professional bodies such as the RIBA, the ACA and the Federation of Property Societies, the FPS being an umbrella organisation representing the views of nearly all local government professional societies to the Local Government Association.

    SCALA have a partnering agreement with the Association of Consultant Architects with whom they have agreed joint aims and objectives which include sharing the benefits each organisation can bring to all those participating in the agreement. The 4P's is the local government organisation that supports local authorities in developing PFI and PPP projects: their website is full of useful information about PFI and current activity.

    SCALA is represented on the Abacus Construction Index which is a free indexed directory to more than 2000 quality online documents and websites relevant to UK construction professionals as well as the Clay Roof Tile Council. The Architects Registration Board is the statutory regulator of the architects' profession in the UK and was established by the Architects Act 1997 while The Architecture Centre Network (ACN) is the independent body which supports the work of the 20 architecture and related centres in the UK. SCALA and Hays liaise centrally and through
    the regions seeking continual improvement and feedback on staff recruitment for architecture and construction services.

Support for regional groups which meet regularly across the country to:

  • Provide a mutual support network
  • Discuss a range of issues of local interes
  • Share experiences & new developments in all aspects of construction & property services & local authority matters generally
  • Disseminate best practice
  • SCALA has a joint initiative with the CIPFA CPS Forum which is operated by IPF, the Institute of Public Finance. As well as regular workshops and forums across the country the organisations produce regular newsletters, surveys, reviews and publications containing a wealth of interesting articles and lists of events. In addition SCALA is on the CIPFA CJC (also accessed via the IPF website) which comprises representatives of all the local authority associations and more than 40 professional bodies and officers' organisations.
